Implications of Steinberg open-sourcing VST3 and ASIO

What does this actually mean for FOSS DAWs? Particularly Zrythm, Ardour, LMMS and Qtractor

I wonder if this means for instance LMMS can finally properly implement vst3 on all platforms and whether Qtractor will have more use out of it

For VST3 - nothing. VST3 was already free software under GPL3. They just changed to a more permissive license. The experimental Wayland support is probably of more importance to us. Wayland is currently an unsolved problem as far as audio plugin UIs are concerned (every plugin requires X11/Xwayland) and VST3 is now the only plugin spec to have taken a first step to solve it.

For ASIO, it means that we can now legally distribute Windows builds with ASIO support (we couldn’t before).
