Zrythm v2.0.0-alpha.6 Released

Zrythm v2.0.0-alpha.6 Released

Zrythm v2.0.0-alpha.6 has been released! Highlights are MIDI and audio file import, and better sizing of mixer and track controls.

This is an alpha release intended for testing and feedback. Many features are still missing or incomplete.

What’s new

File import:

  • MIDI files can be imported as tracks with one clip per MIDI track on its own lane, and into clip launcher slots (#5197)
  • Audio and MIDI files can be dragged onto the timeline: files land at the snapped position in the hovered lane, multi-file drops stack clips in consecutive lanes, and drops below the tracklist create one track per file (#5325)
  • A new “Import File…” item in the File menu and the tracklist header opens a dialog filtered to importable files
  • File dialogs are now native on GNU/Linux through the XDG desktop portal

Recording feedback & design:

  • The playhead turns red while recording, and the record button and a status bar indicator blink while recording is active
  • Recording and error states use separate red palette colors that meet contrast requirements in both dark & light themes
  • The mixer strip and track headers group their controls at a compact size: solo, mute, record and listen sit together, and the mono, phase and monitor control backgrounds appear only when one of them is active

Notable fixes:

  • Undo and redo no longer leave clips invisible when their lane was trimmed away after becoming empty; lanes emptied by clip removals collapse back to a single trailing empty lane (#5325)
  • LV2 plugins no longer leak resources they schedule for release through the worker extension when destroyed
  • LV2 plugins scan correctly in packaged macOS and Windows builds, and startup now verifies the installation and reports fatal errors in a dialog

A new --verify-installation command line option checks the installation layout and exits.
